What can Acrobat X do for you?

Burlington, West Burlington || New Greater Burlington Partnership Guide

We've all had the same problem at one point. We create a document and email it, only the recipient can't open it. We created it in Word 2007 and our client has Word 2003. Sure, you can do a "Save As", but what if there was a simpler way?

Thanks to Adobe, there is. You have probably been using their free tool called Acrobat Reader. Did you know that as part of the Acrobat suite that they also have a PDF authoring software called Acrobat X?

PDF stands for Portable Document Format. Originally, is was meant for users of PC's and Mac's to exchange documents between the two platforms. Over time it has evolved into the most comprehensive, powerful  and dynamic PDF authorizing tool on the market. In the rest of this article, we will look at a few of the highlights of Acrobat X.

PDF File Conversion
After installing Acrobat X, you can easily turn document into PDF files. Most applications will have a new menu option added by Acrobat to seamlessly  "convert" from the native authoring software to a PDF. The Microsoft Office suite offers one button conversion for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. This allows you the save the file as both a PDF and in the programs native format for easy editing later.

How many times have you come across something on the web you wanted to print and it just doesn't work? I'm sure you have tried the "Print Preview"  or tried to right click and nothing works. Now, in both FireFox and Internet Explorer all you have to do is click a "Convert" button that is built into your quick launch bar and Acrobat takes over. It can convert either the entire web page, or just the section you selected to a PDF, keeping all links intact. This allows you to open the PDF from any computer with web access and click on a link, just as if you were on the live site.

Seamlessly Integrate Files
There is no longer a need to fill up peoples inboxes with multiple emails with various file types. When you create a PDF, you can add documents from different types of software. Have both a Word document and an Excel spreadsheet? No problem! Both files can be seamlessly added to the same PDF. You can also attach the original documents to the PDF so they can be edited later. In addition to using static files, you can also insert audio, video or Flash compatible clips.

This is great for creating a presentation or portfolio that will open on any computer with the free reader program. Your presentation can easily be customized with colors, themes, logos or any other branding tools you use.

Analyze Data with Custom Forms
With Acrobat X, you can easily create interactive forms from existing paper or electronic documents. Your audience can then electronically fill out and save the forms, regardless of their platform or operating system. You can then automatically compile form data in a single document or view, filter responses as required and easily export data to a spreadsheet for analysis.

Prepare Documents for Printing
Whether printing in-house or on a press, Acrobat has tools for you. With Acrobat, you can preview, preflight and correct PDF's for printing and digital publishing with fully customizable items such as overset text, color mode or resolution. Acrobat can quickly identify problems you need to correct. When you are finished, fonts and pictures can be embedded. All you have to upload to your printer is one file. When they open it they have all the information needed to complete you job right the first time. In fact, many printers are going to a "PDF only" style of printing, meaning they will only accept PDF's for printing that have been preflighted.

These are just some of the hundreds of highlights that Acrobat can offer you. If you are a home user, corporate user, designer or student, Acrobat has the ability to streamline your workflow and turn your documents into professional pieces that are functional as well nice to look at.
